Many current overlays, nameplates and label constructions are engineered to carry acrylic adhesives that adhere very well to metals and high surface energy substrates. These same adhesives will not adhere as well to substrates categorized as having “low surface energy,” such as Teflon®, polypropylene, polyethylene and powder coated surfaces. However, there are modified acrylic and rubber based adhesives that have been specifically designed for low surface energy substrates. These special adhesives need to be considered whenever you use a powder coated product or any other low surface energy plastic.
